3rd Maine Camp of Instruction & Rally for Norlands Living History Event The 2009 3rd Maine Camp of Instruction will be held on June 6 & 7 at the Norlands Living History Center in Livermore. This year’s camp has been named Camp King to honor the memory of our fallen friend and comrade, Billy King. The camp is being held in conjunction with a fund-raising living history event, called Rally for Norlands, which will assist the Living History Center in collecting money to be applied to rebuilding the farmer’s cottage and barn lost in last year’s fire, as well as to much needed repair of the remaining buildings. The 20th Maine, 15th Alabama, and Civil War living historians from units outside of Maine are expected to be at this event. Besides the usual training and education, our military camp of instruction will serve to provide public demonstrations of Civil War drill and musket firing. The training periods will be punctuated by two battle events on Saturday, June 6, and one on June 7. All members of the Infantry and Field Music should plan to attend at least one, and preferably both, days of Camp King. Members of the 3rd Maine will be required to register for this event. While the Norlands Living History Center is charging a $10.00 registration fee for each reenactor, the unit has voted to pay $5.00 of this fee for each member who registers by May 10, 2009. The event organizers will be providing a bean supper on Saturday evening, and this will cost an additional advance payment of $5.00. Please note that Chef Bray will not be cooking on Saturday evening, so if you do not sign-up for the bean supper you will need to provide your own supper rations. Chef Bray will be providing breakfasts on both days, one lunch, and snacks for $12.00, paid in advance. Payment for the meal plan must be provided to Chef Bray by no later than May 30th.
