140th
Gettysburg Memorial March
|
| On
the morning of Thursday, August 7th, 2003, 140 years and 37 days
after the Third Maine experienced its most difficult day of combat
and loss just south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a small number
of soldier reenactors from Company A and Company F walked the route
of the original Third Maine on the Gettysburg National Battlefield
Park. They stopped at the monuments and markers that were erected
to honor the Third Maine and paid homage to all of the Maine men
who fell in battle during the first three days of July, 1863. Sprigs
of Maine white pine were laid on the graves of the Maine men buried
in the Gettysburg National Cemetery. |
